Sylvano: Hello Students. Welcome to Drama Class. I am Professor Sylvano M. Adamoli, and I will be your instructor in the class. And yes I am an Adult, XD So there.
In this class we will be studying a series of subjects related to the field of Drama. We will be discussing on the history of theater from the early Greek tragedies and comedies to Japanese Noh and Kabuki Theater, The religious Morality and Passion Plys of the middle ages, Shakespearean Drama, The Italian Theater of the Profession, or La Commedia dell’Arte, Restoration Comedy, and the Beginning of Musicals Fun huh?
We will also be dealing with Drama as Literature, Since Drama production use pieces of literature that have been special composed for the production, I.e. a script.
Any form of literature can be made into a play, movie, music video, opera, and the like. Drama is a very great medium for conveying ideals to the audience, giving them a new outlook on life, or just entertain them.
It’s no surprise that our fave Music Videos obviously uses acting to Convey a story. You can see it in the way the artist moves, they way they sing, how everything else around them reacts to their movements. It’s all about Drama..... Well the videos about the song it’s for..... Oh you get what I mean.
I know we’ll have a great time in this class, but just to make it easier for all of us, I think we should review the rules for this class. Just to be clear. ^^
Your phones, Ipods, pagers, and etc must be put away and laptops and tablets will only be allowed for notes and searchable Only during free time will you all be aloud to goof off. Ipods and Mp3s will be allowed only during work done on assignments and projects, but only if you do the work.
Food and drink are allowed in the classroom, but please DO MIND THE MESS! We sometimes have issues with ants on occasions, and the last thing I need is for students to be complaining about ants when there's a mess in the room.
Also please be nice to your classmates. You may need to work with them on some group assignments or in pairs.
Homework must be turned in on time and performances must be done before the due date. Late Assignments will not be accepted.
Any breaking of these rules will result in either a visit to the counselor a visit to the Vice Principal, or an F. But if you all behave well and do your work, we’ll get along just fine....... Unless you need a whipping to be “inspired” to behave. XD I'm just kidding. I'm not the Marquis de Sade....... am I? XD anyway moving on. XD I look foreword to teaching you all about drama. and we’ll have some games for you guys to participate in too. Good luck.
Lesson 2
Sylvano: Hello Again Students. Today’s Lesson we will be on Character and Setting. Yes we all know what Character and Setting are in..... just about anything, But for the hell of it, Imma teach you about these subjects. Now a Character is the representation of a person in a narrative work of art. Each Character is unique and encompass certain types of traits based on the Character themselves.
Stock Characters, for example, are characters with specific traits. However Stock Characters are usually stereotypes portrayed on stage. Stock Characters are one of the oldest "devices" in Literary Arts, dating back to the tragedies of Ancient Greece. Originally based on mythical characters, They were usually very recognizable.
Now every story has main Characters. Protagonists are the main character, usually they are in conflict with another type of character known as the Antagonist, who serves as the opposition. Now in many of the classic stories, the Protagonist and Antagonist usually played the parts of the hero and the villain locked in combat. However both can be either bad or good. However one type of character can easily screw you up in the story is the False Protagonist. These Characters appear to be the main characters in the story, you may fall in love with them or you respect them or stuff like that, but he later end up getting killed off, or they change in terms of their roles in the story. The may disappear from the story, become a lesser character, or becoming the antagonist, or the enemy.
Now Setting is of course the time and Place that a story, movie, or play takes place in. Setting is EXTREMELY CRITICAL to the production. Whatever setting the story takes place in, the play must be styled as such. However if you wanted to change the setting, You could, but the play and everything in it would have to match the new setting. You wouldn't set a play in 1659 and expect to see robots. That makes no sense at all.
There are may types of settings used in a play. Historical Plays take place in a point in history, either real history, or in an alternate setting, such as in a fictional city or country, or a fiction time period. Steampunk for example would be an idea for an alternate time line. A sort of Pseudo-Victorian era where everything is powered by steampower and clockworks.

Now for your assignment you will create a character and and dress up as them, but you also need to write about their background. I need their name, age, weight, height, Personality, history, and role in a play. More info on the homework later. due dates pending

It HAS TO BE AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER! and if you do use one of the character types here, you are completely free to customize them as far as traits and history.
